Touring Car Stars to Join Record-Breaking BMW 116 & 120 Grids at Silverstone

Thu 27 Apr 2023

Next weekend sees the Gaz Shocks 116 Trophy take to the track at Silverstone for the 2023 season opener, producing what is set to be a record 46-car capacity field for Sunday's 90-minute encounter.

As well as a whole host of returnees and newcomers attracted to the formula's great value rear-wheel-drive endurance racing and donor reliability, Silverstone will see a range of famous faces behind the wheel of the E87-generation 1 Series models. Former touring car champion and broadcaster Tim Harvey will join Richard Lakey in the first of the RL Motor Services Ltd cars, whilst fellow BTCC legend Matt Neal will pair up with Richard Philips in the #44 RL Motor Services car. The duo will also be joined on track by Henry Neal in the Sam Holman/James Watson car; becoming another father/son pairing competing in the family-friendly racing series with 750 Motor Club.

That's not all though, since Saturday is set to showcase the inaugural double-header rounds of the 120 Coupe Cup sharing a grid with the first running of the 116 Sprint Trophy, with an entry that looks set to reach an impressive combined 30 cars at launch. Tim Harvey will also make a guest appearance in those first ever 120 Coupe Cup races, whilst there remains one Coupe seat left to fill for yet another icon of the sport keen to go head-to-head with an old rival.
